The International Programs Division (IPD) provides direct support to the international military students (IMS) attending the US Army Medical Training in the areas of administration, socialization, cultural enrichment, recreation and personal and family matters. Administrative and support functions include briefings, in-processing and assisting students, and ensuring that the international students are prepared for their academic programs. IPD training functions include monitoring IMS academic progress during their time at the Medical School, and coordinating with the academic departments to provide assistance as needed. Other training functions include briefing cadre and staff on the security assistance program and the particulars of working with IMS, coordinating with academic sponsors and delineating their responsibilities, and providing professional development training and orientation opportunities for IPD staff. Finally, it is the responsibility of the IPD to execute the Field Studies Program (FSP) so that international students return to their homelands with an understanding of the responsibilities of governments, militaries, and citizens to protect, preserve and respect the rights of every individual. The FSP is developed and implemented with the specific objective of promoting an understanding of U.S. society, institutions and ideals and the way in which these elements reflect U.S. commitment to basic principles of internationally recognized human rights.

The Academy of Health Sciences Fort Sam Houston is known as the "Home of Army Medicine" and "Home of the Combat Medic." The US Army Medical Department Center and School (AMEDDC&S), Health Readiness Center of Excellence (HRCoE), Directorate of Training & Academic Affairs (DoTAA) is the largest medical education and training campus in the world producing nearly 35,000 medical professional graduates every year. Instruction at the AHS includes 315 programs of instruction covering the entire range of Army Medical Department Corps: Medical, Dental, Army Nurse, Veterinary, Medical Service, and Army Medical Specialist Corps. Courses are also available to qualified Department of Defense civilians, other Services, international military and civilian personnel.
Medical Education Training Campus
Tri-Service Campus is located on Fort Sam Houston, Texas in the City of San Antonio. With over 30 medical programs, and 24,000 annual graduates, the METC is a state-of-the-art DoD healthcare education campus that trains enlisted medical personnel. Warrior Care begins at the METC.
Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute
The Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute (DMRTI) is a Tri-Service organization staffed by professionals from the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force and Department of Defense Civilians. DMRTI offers both resident and non-resident joint medical readiness training courses as well as professional medical programs for more than 7,000 residents and 12,000 non-resident students per year in Trauma Care, Burn Care, Disaster Preparedness, Humanitarian Assistance, and CBRNE Preparation/Response. DMRTI improves the medical readiness training for military medical personnel and the coordination of readiness training efforts between military and civilian organizations.

International students should report to the IPD office, located in Aabel Hall, Bldg 2840, Suite 109. Administrative matters such as in-processing, briefings, and identification cards will be handled by the IPD.
The MEDCoE does not conduct routine operations or training on weekends, or legal holidays. Normal working hours are Monday-Friday, 0730-1730. Security Cooperation Officers (SCO) should ensure that the receiving IPD is provided a minimum 5 day notice for all IMS arrivals; this information should include flight itinerary, as well as any other pertinent information regarding IMS. In order to ensure that the IMS is properly in-processed, IMS report date on Invitational Travel Orders (ITO) should be at least 3 working days prior to the course start date. This information can be e-mailed, put on the SAN, faxed (DSN: 471-8968), or called commercial 210-221-6020 or (DSN 471). Upon notification, arrangements can be made for student to be properly met at the airport. IMS arriving without notification should proceed immediately to the airport USO, or the nearest telephone; and call the IPD NCOIC at (210) 889-1232 or (210) 221-8747 or the IPD FSP Manager at (210) 240-2506 or (210) 221-6310.
All students are currently billeted on post at International Hotels Group IHG Army Hotels Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston, at three separate locations. Billeting is determined on training requirements. Building 592 is located on 2350 Dickman Road, Building 1384 is located on 3325 William Hardee Road, Building 2426 Candlewood Suites is located on 2800 Winfield Scott Road. The hotel offers a free Continental breakfast 7 days a week, shuttle service to SAMMC, DFAC, PX, Commissary, as well as other facilities on post. Laundry room, and free internet service are also available. Be advised that hotel is unable to accommodate family members.
Billeting exception to the rules: FMS and in some cases IMET students are afforded a second option, to stay at our contracted hotel, Drury Inn Suites San Antonio Airport located at 95 NE Loop 410 210-308-8100. The hotels offers full breakfast, plus afternoon kick-back light dinner, 7-days a week at no additional charge. Student will be required to provide their own form of transportation.
Fort Sam Houston is unable to provide adequate life-cycle support for IMS dependents. IMS who elect to bring unauthorized dependents will do so at their own expenses and these dependents must maintain self-sufficiency for the duration of their sponsor`s U.S. Army sponsored training in CONUS. Additionally, these unauthorized dependents will not receive an U.S. Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card.
